Book Review – Guide des abeilles d’Europe

Needing a reference book to help me identify the various bees in our garden, I invested in the Guide des abeilles, bourdons, guêpes et fourmis d’Europe by Hans Bellman. A compact book with over 300 pages, it contains excellent photos to help identification and does what it says on the cover!
I would have rated it 5/5 except for the lack of any mention of the Asian Hornet. It was originally published in 1999

If there is work horse in my beekeeping library then this is it. Packed full of excellent information logically ordered, this is the book I dive into when I have a specific question that I need to answer. Having spent time in both Wales and New Zealand, the author has an interesting perspective.

This has to be one of my favourite bee books – well illustrated, clear comprehensive colour photography through out and simply written. It’s an excellent all-round guide to beekeeping. The author is based in America but knows his stuff, and best of all, he looks like Grizzly Adams!
