Bee Muddy!

In the recent wet weather we’ve noticed bees returning to the same patch of mud outside our front door. I’ve been looking around for an explanation as they have closer water sources so I can only think they are collecting something from the mud. I haven’t been able to find any information on this behaviour so if anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
