Asian Hornet on the prowl…
Following on from my nest blog yesterday, I thought I’d share these photos that we took recently of an Asian Hornet scavenging a spider’s dinner.
Apologies that these aren’t the clearest photos but the hornet was only on the web for a matter of seconds before the spider came out to protect her dinner (you can see the spider just below the hornet in some of the pictures). The hornet had managed to open the sac with what looked like a fly inside and was about to get her dinner as the spider approached. Surprisingly though, rather than attack the spider (which wasn’t very large or brightly coloured), the hornet took off without its snack….
