A week in September….
Oops – a whole week has flown by and no update, so I thought I’d show you what’s going on in our garden as September marches to a close.
The bees are still out gathering pollen and the hives have been very busy with the current hot weather, although the days are noticeably short with all the bees tucked up by 7pm when the temperature starts to drop.
The late sunflowers are dying off and the main crop are being harvested – but we still have lots of wild flowers including the ever popular clover.

Meanwhile, the local bumble bees are still coming and going enjoying the wild flowers in the garden…

The number of butterflies and moths has dropped dramatically but we do still have some flying around the meadow…

We found a huge chrysalis in our vegetable patch and look what a beautiful moth it hatched into…. (we haven’t quite got round to working out what it is though!)

I wonder what’s going to emerge from this beautiful nest….

But as always, when our back is turned the Asian hornets return to check out our bees. As the evenings draw in and our bees come home earlier, the hornets wait for the final few pollen laden bees to struggle back but at least the Asian hornet guards are keeping them outside.
